Keith, Thanks for asking.....a whole bunch of years ago I was in a class and I can't remember who it was that asked, "....how much do you have to spend to get a client to walk in the door?"......he then started adding it up. Post cards (It was the thing at the time....shows you how long ago), newspaper advertising, radio, etc. And he went through the list of different ways you could advertise and then it would produce clients walking in the door.
OK....so then he added it up.....he said so you spent $2000 on advertising and you got 100 new clients. That means it costed you $20 per person.
Do you see the concept????? OK....so MY THINKING is that the most powerful of all advertising is "Word of Mouth".......HOW DO YOU PROMOTE word of mouth advertising???? WELL.....in some ways, it just happens. You do a session, they love the images, they post the image on their social media and then, everyone sees it and loves it and presto.....WORD OF MOUTH ADVERTISING.
Are you starting to follow my logic???????
So,,,,,,for me, the summer is crazy SLOW.....I could literally close the doors and nobody would know. So....what I do is I use this time to bring in people......each one is photographed and told they have to post on their social media how WONDERFUL I AM.....and tell the story of the session.
Thus, I generate all kinds of "WORD OF MOUTH" advertising and I don't have to pay for it.......it only costs me a little bit of time......and frankly it's TIME doing what I love anyway......I'm already show so it's not really taking away from something else. PLUS, as a bonus, I then have a whole bunch of images to use to post on my social media to promote with in the future.
The LAST thing I do IS I have all of them sign a model release, I then post their images on Adobe Stock and Shutterstock (referral link: https://submit.shutterstock.com/?rid=177651856 )....and I literally make money using the images this way. NOT MUCH MONEY...but hey, money is money.....and once it's uploaded to stock, it's always out there making money.
I HOPE THAT HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!
