  • New tripod

I am thinking about buying a new tripod.
I keep breaking parts off of the Bogens so I will probably go to a Gitzo.
Soon to be shooting with Canon 1D Mark 3 and 70-200 lens.
Is the GT2530 (rated for 26.5 pounds capacity) really sturdy enough for this camera or shoud I go up to the GT3530 (39.7 lbs.)??
Mostly for wedding and outdoor locations.
    All thought welcome.

After eight years building my muscles with a Bogen 3051, I felt the need to lighten the load we took on location.

Since February, we are back to a Gitzo, now a 3530LSV. It is a three section, no center column. It's made of their 6XCF. We open up the legs 100% and the height is near perfect for my 6' height.

Extremely light, which can be good and bad. I deal with the bad. It comes with a video 'bowl', which I promptly replaced with our well broken in Arca-Swiss B1 head. I'm thinking of replacing that with a RRS BH-55.

It wasn't cheap, but it is working well for us. We saved ~12 lbs from our previous 'pod.

              bump!

Wayne, did you end up getting the gitzo gt2530? I took a look at my local store and it was sweet! Light and easy to adjust.

I also like the mechanics of the Bogen 3051 which is what I would love a tripod to do but it is freaking HEAVY!

                Andrew,
                No, I settled for a Bogen 3221.
                It is fine for now.
Will look at the Gitzo next time.
